Who has to duck under a standard door?
Anyone taller than 6'8" (203 cm). That is fewer than 1 man in 10,000, but it is common in the NBA: LeBron James (206 cm), Kevin Durant (211 cm) and Victor Wembanyama (224 cm) all have to bend. Shaquille O'Neal (216 cm) is 13 cm taller than the door.
Why 80 inches?
The size became the building standard in the 20th century because it clears almost every adult with room to spare and fits a wall built with 8 foot (96 in) studs, leaving space for the frame and header above the door.
