How to convert feet and inches to cm
- Multiply the feet by 30.48.
- Multiply the inches by 2.54.
- Add the two numbers.
Example for 5'4": 5 × 30.48 = 152.4, and 4 × 2.54 = 10.16. Together: 162.56 cm, rounded to 162.6 cm.
5.4 is not the same as 5'4
This is the most common mistake. 5'4" means 5 feet 4 inches (162.6 cm). 5.4 feet is a decimal: 5.4 × 30.48 = 164.6 cm, which is closer to 5'5". A foot has 12 inches, not 10, so the number after the dot is not the inches.
Converting cm back to feet
Divide the centimetres by 2.54 to get inches, then divide by 12. The whole number is the feet and the remainder is the inches. For example 175 cm ÷ 2.54 = 68.9 inches = 5 feet 8.9 inches, or about 5'9".
